Memorial Day

Memorial Day isn’t for vets
That’s what Veteran’s Day is for.
Memorial Day is for remembering
All those who died in the war

So that we may have freedom
But it comes at a cost–
How many more lives
Are needed to be lost

Before humans unkind
Get the message across
How long ’til reserves
In our souls are exhausted?

We don’t need fighting
No more war, nor more pain
No more families torn apart
Over another engraved name

No more warriors coming home
With their Light stripped away
No more nightmares robbing peace
As the innocence decays

Thanks to all who have served
But I’m sorry to say
Our country hasn’t changed
From their bloodthirsty ways

It appears after all
That your dying is in vain
Though the times may be different
The Devil remains the same.

Happy #MDW everyone ✌🏼🇺🇸

Pure Food

I’m a purist more than anything

You don’t see “organic water”
Because you expect it to be clean.

Just like my fruits and veggies–
I expect them not to poison M.E.1
But that’s not guaranteed.

That’s why I invest in those labeled with OG2
At least those I know have standards;
I can trust the taste I see.

  1. M.E. here stands for “me” but also Mother Earth, since I am her and she is me. And so are you if you’re woke enough to see.
  2. OG = organic

On Love

My first kiss in pre-K could have led to Jewish babies
More for real I almost had high school sweetheart babies
Then I almost had good Christian babies
Then I almost had New Jersey Italian style babies
Then I almost had Irish Catholic babies
Then I almost had Chinese babies
I never came close enough to my truth of strong & tall punk babies
Now I might have tall & slender brown skinned babies

Is there anything left to try after this?
Will my babies love me regardless?
What is love? Are these feelings amiss?
Do you still love me now, Dad? Now that I’ve disgraced the name of Dick.

“Please, call me Richard.”

Poem: Universal Law

Lyrics:
I’m cutting out the meat so I go against the grain
I wanna be released from the burden of the pain
That causes others suffering–after all, we’re all the same
And duh, doing unto others is the nature of the game
It’s the Golden Rule that binds us on this here earth now as we trod
Karma ain’t always a bitch if you give your life to God
Pay it forward if you got it, if you don’t then ask for help
We’re a living breathing organism and you ain’t no single cell
We got talents, they be plenty, yeah they’re out the wazoo
Got a problem? We got solutions and we’re all here for you
We are rootin’ for the win, we believe that you can do it
Build your dreams, yes you can, focus the mind then go pursue it

Organic IS the Only Way

In a perfect world, we wouldn’t have to choose
Because in a perfect world, it is safe to assume
The farmers and regulations only want for us what’s best
But no, to “make more money” they spray toxins to kill the pests
Funny, how it works, since the toxins kill us too
They get into our bodies and the earth becomes polluted
We suffocate and die a slow and cancerous death
Our genes and our lives are never fully expressed.

That’s not a perfect world, or at least it’s not to me
But I believe we can change using the power of money
To become conscious consumers– we can all play a part
Put your money where your mouth is if you want to protect your heart.
